With the added supply, retailers are forced to cut prices and the savings get passed onto you, the customer. In this article, we highlight some of the best places both online and “live” to find a great deal on a ladies leather purse. Because we are looking for purse deals made of a high end material (leather), we are going to focus on non-luxury brands. Luxury retailers do not typically cut prices because it would hurt their brand power; also, they have a steady supply of wealthier buyers. Don’t worry though, there are still a lot of places to find a great deal.
Looking at brick and mortar stores first, we suggest you start with the outlets of high end stores – specifically Nordstrom Rack, Sak’s Off Fifth Avenue, or Neiman Marcus Last Call. These stores often carry not only high quality leather purses at a discount, but sometimes luxury brands as well! For example, a friend bought a very nice $800 Marc Jacobs leather purse from Nordstrom Rack for just under $400. Overall though, Sak’s usually has the best selection of higher end leather ladies purses. That said, these are still fairly pricey so there are other options.
The next option is to check out the national discount store chains such as TJMaxx, Marshall’s, or Ross. It can be hit or miss here, but we have seen great deals on well known brands here (Kenneth Cole, Juicy Couture, etc.). Prices range from $50 – $200 in general. Out of these, we see the best selection at Marshall’s, especially locations near a larger metropolitan city.
Now let’s turn our attention to the online retailers. While you will likely get a better price and have a larger selection to choose from, you will not get to physically touch or “test” the bag beforehand. Just be more attentive to the purse descriptions (dimensions, weight, etc.) and you should be okay. We definitely recommend going with a reputable and established online brand – the selection is better, there are typically more sales and closeouts, the buying experience is streamlined, and customer service is typically very good. Amazon.com: the granddaddy of online shopping, they have a very large selection often at great prices. You probably see the most reviews on here as well, which is a great help when buying online. Also, you can find some steals on their daily Gold Box specials (look for a little gold treasure chest on the top of the Amazon.com homepage.
eBags.com: a site dedicated to bags, purses, and totes, eBags also has quite a large selection of women’s leather purses. Their normal prices are pretty decent but you want to head to the SALE link on the far right of the homepage. From there you can drill down to Handbags then Leather Handbags. We always see plenty of leather purses and leather shoulder handbags on sale daily.
OverStock.com: as the name implies, they pick up large quantities of items to help distributors and manufacturers liquidate inventory. Go to the Clothing and Shoes -> Handbags -> Leather Handbags (you may need to “expand” this section). They often have great designer brands like Michael Kors or Kenneth Cole.
eBay.com: you might not think of an auction site, but we have seen some phenomenal deals for leather purses here. The one thing you have to be wary of are people selling knockoffs of luxury brands. Because of this, we recommend non-luxury brands (Kenneth Cole, Nine West, etc.) that are not usually cloned or knocked off.
As you can see, there are plenty of virtual (online) and physical stores where you can pick up a great deal on a leather ladies purse. Our recommendation is to start at the stores where you can touch and feel the bag beforehand. You can always look for the same purse online.
